Mosta

There is so much more to Malta than sun and sea.  Located in the centre of Malta, Mosta is the perfect base from which to explore this beautiful island.

We are situated in the village core, an area which retains much of its original charm and community spirit.  People stop to chat and are always happy to suggest places to visit, great places to eat, give directions or just pass the time of day. Our guests tell us that, not only do they feel the warmth of our welcome, but the friendly and interested attitudes of our neighbours contribute to a special experience, which isn’t always possible in the busy resorts where so many people are visitors with no real tie to the area. Not only is Mosta culturally and historically interesting, as you will see from our short descriptions of the varied aspects of our village and surrounding area, but it is a fantastic transport hub, with buses that will take you to so much of the island at a very reasonable price

Mosta Dome

The Mosta Dome

The Mosta Dome is perhaps the most impressive church in Malta, with its’ massive rotunda, that is the third largest in the world.

The Mosta Dome church was built in 1860, and it is dedicated to the Assumption of Our Lady. During the Second World War the church was almost destroyed when, during an air raid, a 200kg bomb fell through the dome without exploding. All the 300 people attending morning mass were left unharmed. On the 9th April, 1942 the detonator was removed and a replica is now on display inside the church as a famous tourist attraction. The Mosta Dome, or Rotunda took 27 years to build and was designed by a French designer who resided in Mosta, George Grognet de Vasse.

Victoria Lines trails

The Victoria Lines, originally known as the North West Front, are a line of fortifications that spans 12 kilometres along the width of Malta. dividing the north of the island from the more heavily populated south. The idea was to safeguard the people from attacks by sea. They were built by  the British

Wied l Ghasel - Honey Valley

Wied il-Għasel is a picturesque valley located in the central part of Mosta. The name of the valley literally translates to "Valley of Honey" in Maltese, which is derived from the many wildflowers and bees that can be found in the area.

The valley is about 3 km long and runs from the outskirts of the town of Mosta to the village of Mgarr. It is surrounded by steep cliffs and is known for its natural beauty, which attracts many visitors and hikers.

Wied il-Ghasel is also home to a number of historical landmarks, including the ancient cart ruts that can be found on the valley floor, which date back to the Bronze Age. The valley is also home to a number of watercourses, which feed into the nearby underground aquifer that supplies much of the island's water.

Overall, Wied il-Għasel is a beautiful and historically significant area of Malta that is well worth visiting for anyone interested in natural beauty and history.
